SumTotal Appoints Two New Additions to Executive Leadership Team in Sales and Marketing

New Executive Vice President of Sales and Chief Marketing Officer Position the Company for Accelerated Growth

SumTotal® Systems, Inc., a leader in Strategic Human Capital Management (HCM) solutions, today announced the two newest members of its executive leadership team. Bill Shaheen, who recently served as Oracle’s Group Vice President of HCM, joins as SumTotal’s new Executive Vice President of Worldwide Sales. Holly Rollo joins as SumTotal’s newly appointed Chief Marketing Officer, coming from SuccessFactors where she was Vice President of Global Marketing. Both executives report directly to the CEO, John Borgerding, and serve on SumTotal’s newly expanded executive leadership team, which includes its new CFO, Jeff Laborde, formerly from Goldman, Sachs & Co. who joined in late August.

Shaheen comes to SumTotal with two decades of experience in driving sales growth in the software industry. In addition to his work at Oracle, he led the large-enterprise sales group at Taleo and held senior sales-management positions with Unicru and Requisite Technology. Shaheen said he was attracted to SumTotal, in part, due to the breadth of the company’s portfolio of HCM solutions and the depth of its customer base, which make the company well-positioned for growth.

“HR buyers want to align with a partner that is focused on human capital management solutions, and SumTotal is the largest independent, dedicated strategic HCM provider in the world,” Shaheen said. “With more than 3,500 customers and 45 million users around the globe, SumTotal has a solid customer base and is continuing to expand its global footprint. Moving forward, we will continue to focus on customer success and delivering deeper levels of value across the board.”

Rollo brings more than 20 years of experience in developing marketing strategies and leading global growth for technology companies. Prior to her executive role at SuccessFactors, she held senior marketing roles at Cisco, SAP, Sybase, Veritas and IBM and has over ten years’ experience in cloud-based computing.

Rollo said SumTotal is a marketeer’s dream because it is like launching an entirely new company, with the benefit of having a great base of Fortune 500 customers. The company purchased Softscape, a leader in integrated talent management software, in 2010. Last year, SumTotal acquired three other businesses: GeoLearning, a cloud-based learning management software company; Cybershift, a company specialising in strategic workforce management software; and Accero, experts in payroll and benefits software. In March, SumTotal released its fully integrated Strategic HCM suite, which provides comprehensive support for learning management, talent management, workforce management, expense management, payroll and benefits.

“SumTotal is the industry’s best kept secret. While most people remember it as the leading learning vendor, it’s an entirely different company than it was just 18 months ago.” Rollo said. “SumTotal is over the integration hump and can deliver an end-to-end HCM solution with a unified user experience on a single platform today. The heavy lifting integrating companies and products has been done, and now we are geared for growth and will continue to deliver innovations in social collaboration, mobility and analytics.”

SumTotal CEO John Borgerding said, “Holly and Bill bring a fresh perspective to our leadership team backed by a wealth of industry knowledge and experience. We couldn’t be happier to have them on board as we work to continue our momentum and take the company to the next level.”
