Improving employment opportunities for disabled young people

Matt Wynes, Head of Corporate Partnerships, Whizz- Kidz

The employment gap between disabled people and non-disabled people is staggering - disabled people represent one fifth of the working age population in the UK, yet less than half of this group are employed.

In a Whizz-Kidz consultation with young wheelchair users, 80% of disabled young people said they have not received any work experience through their school.

We know that young wheelchair users aspire to progress to further education and build a career but often struggle to access the same opportunities as their non-disabled peers.
Todays session will give an insight to the considerations that employers need to make for young wheelchair users, how Whizz-Kidz is working with employers and young people to create more opportunity as well as an overview of areas to consider in online recruitment such as legislation and discrimination.
