CiviHR is an integrated, open-source HR management application that has been designed for non-profits around the world, and which can be either downloaded for free or used as a hosted service via the web for a modest charge.
The solution is a fully comprehensive platform covering staff records, recruitment, appraisals and absence management, and also provides all staff with a remotely accessible self-service portal and a separate portal for managers. A built in powerful reporting tool allows managers to gather valuable organisation performance data. As a single integrated system, it is much more user-friendly and cost-efficient than the disparate set of unconnected systems most organisations are currently using, which are hard to manage and difficult to draw data from.
Open Source products have no licence fees. This immediately lowers the cost of ownership for organisations, including those in the developing world, and also allows the product to scale-up for larger charities.
The platform has been funded by Zing, a private foundation, and developed by Compucorp, a digital and design agency that specialises in creating solutions for non-profits, based on open-source software.
There are seven charities currently trialling CiviHR including UK Youth and Farm Africa, and the system will be available more widely soon after the official project launch on September 8th, 2016.

It also gives users the ability to customise and create new features, which will help us to continually improve the platform in line with the interests of the organisations we developed it for.”
CiviHR is holding an event at the Google Campus on September 8th, 2016, to officially launch CiviHR to charities in the UK. The event is titled ‘Building Open Source Technology for Non-Profits’, and will explore the journey of developing and sharing open source solutions for non-profits, and how this can change how technology is used in the sector.
