Speaker Bio

Jayson Sawyer has served at the U.S. Army Recruiting Command (USAREC) Headquarters and the U.S. Army Accessions Command’s (USAAC) Strategic Outreach Directorate (formerly SOD-- now G-7) since October of 1999. An employee of and Command Media Analyst/Information Systems Technologist for Northrop Grumman Information Technology, he worked as a contracted interactive advertising and multimedia consultant to the Army and its Federal Reserve component until his activation in July of 2004 to attend the resident Army War College in Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania and later two-year mobilization tour beginning on 1 August 2005 in support of the Global War on Terrorism’s Operation Noble Eagle—Defense of the American Homeland. As a civilian advisor, subject matter expert, and technician, he specializes in the use of World Wide Web, CD-ROM, Video DVD, chat room, electronic kiosk, Enhanced CD, social networking, and other interactive marketing mediums and technologies to help recruit soldiers for America’s Army.

Also now a Colonel of Infantry in the U.S. Army Reserve, Jayson is a member of the Headquarters, Department of the Army Secretariat Staff as a Drilling Individual Mobilization Augmentee (DIMA), currently assigned as the Chief of Communication Analysis and Assessment within the Office of the Chief of Public Affairs. He has over 25 years of total commissioned service, which includes overseas duty in the Republic of Panama, the Republic of Korea, the Republic of the Philippines, the Federal Republic of Germany, Belgium, Guam, Hawaii, as well as several locations in the Continental United States. He is a veteran of four command tours, three at the field grade officer level, to include battalion command, as well as tenure as the Chief of the United States Army Armor Center’s Combat Indoctrination Committee at Fort Knox and the leader of both a Rifle and a Weapons platoon in the 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Jayson is Airborne, Ranger, Air Assault, and Jungle Expert qualified, is certified as a Scout Commander on the M2/M3 Bradley Infantry/Cavalry Fighting Vehicle, and is a recipient of the Expert Infantryman Badge.

A former Regular Army Infantry Captain, his civilian career experiences also include an 18-year professional background with private industry in Advertising, Marketing Communications, Corporate Relations, Public Relations/Affairs, Event Marketing, Graphic and Web Page Development and Design, Electronic Publishing, TV Commercial/Video/DVD Production, and Information Technology. As an entrepreneur, he owned and operated Kaleidoscope Multimedia Services, and was later bought out and hired by Tekno, Incorporated. In his first three years as Marketing Communications Manager of that corporation, he assisted the engineering and manufacturing firm in achieving distinction on the Inc. 500 list of “America’s Fastest Growing Privately Held Companies” for three straight years, a feat which had not been accomplished up to that point in time by a Kentucky-based business, or since. He has also served as a paid consultant to the state government of the Commonwealth of Kentucky for information technology network equipment employment and training.

Jayson was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, eventually becoming a “Distinguished Graduate” and co-valedictorian of his High School class of 532 students. In his junior year, he was recruited for, and then competed for and subsequently received an early nomination and appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. He graduated from “the Point” on the Commandant’s List in 1982, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Math/Science/Engineering with a concentration in behavioral science and leadership and extra coursework in German language and culture as well as participation in both an international military academy exchange program and a behavioral science summer internship with the senior leadership instructor in the U.S. Army. Later, he also earned a Master of Strategic Studies from the resident Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania in June of 2005, with specific scholastic emphasis on the military and the media, information operations, public speaking, and the Asia/Pacific strategic area of geographic interest.
