Barry Mehrman is director of employment strategy for McDonald’s U.S. Human Resources department. He is responsible for the strategic direction of U.S. restaurant employment for both McDonald’s corporate owned and franchised restaurants. This includes employment strategies, processes, tools and resources focused on recruiting restaurant management and crew.

Barry started with McDonald's in 1972 as a part-time crew person while attending Emerson College in Boston. Upon graduating college in 1976 he entered McDonald's Management Training Program. Barry progressed through the restaurant management ranks to Operations Consultant in the Boston Region.

In 1984, he joined McDonald’s Human Resources Department in the New Orleans Region and held that position until moving into Corporate Human Resources in Oak Brook, Illinois in May of 1989 where he initially worked on teen employment issues.

In 1992, Barry became the Human Resources Manager for McDonald’s subsidiary Leaps & Bounds. In 1994, he returned to Oak Brook HR as an Employment Consultant in the Employment Development department. Barry was promoted to director in 1996, responsible for the design and development of restaurant recruitment and retention strategies and tactics.In recent years, Barry has been responsible for a variety of recruitment, retention and recognition initiatives including McDonald’s employment internet strategy, management and crew selection systems, employee commitment survey, orientation process and the Ray Kroc Awards to name a few.
