How The Move Towards E-Commerce Affects HR And Recruitment

With e-commerce at an all-time high and most predictions showing that the trend of online buying will be continuing to increase in coming times, it has never been more important to understand the dynamics of e-commerce

The shift from traditional purchasing on the high street to online purchasing via enterprise ecommerce platforms has touched almost every industry in some way, including the HR and recruitment industry.

How Has E-commerce Changed The Way In Which HR Agencies Operate?

Since the advent of the "E" age, the job market has changed, resulting in recruitment agencies needing to change the type of employees that they look for. In traditional retail operations, there is normally a great demand for sales representatives but in a digital world where sales are made online, the need for actual human sales representatives is greatly reduced. While some job types have experienced a reduction in demand, others have experienced a surge.

E-commerce platforms have created a whole new set of niche jobs that require staffing. While most customers only see the front end of large internet retailers, they never see the back end where all the administrative work gets done. Product uploading, price management and marketing are all integral functions that need to be in place in order to run a successful online shop. This shift in thinking and doing has led employers to look for a different type of employee and recruitment agencies have to understand the mechanics of e-commerce and e-commerce platforms in order to find suitable candidates for their customers.

E-commerce platforms have also directly affected recruitment agencies by allowing them to recruit candidates online via their websites. Although this type of platform does not strictly fall into the realm of e-commerce, it works on the same principle and is, therefore, affected by changes and development in e-commerce platforms.

Which Type Of Jobs Does E-commerce Platforms Provide?

While e-commerce platforms themselves make it possible for smaller businesses to easily gain an online presence, they also create jobs. The software and coding which makes e-commerce happen require dedicated coders, designers and product managers. These jobs are in high demand and many recruitment agencies are being tasked with finding people with the appropriate skill sets to further develop the existing e-commerce platforms.

E-commerce platforms also require people to manage them, while most tasks are automated and very few manual interventions are required, some tasks cannot be fully automated and requires a bit of human help. These administrative jobs are required in order to make the online world work and as a result, the demand for back-end administrators is also rising.

Recruitment specialists and agencies play a vital role in connecting the people that create and operate e-commerce platforms with the customers that use them. In order for any recruitement specialist or agency to remain competitive in today's busy digital world, it has to adapt to new techniques and incorporate new technologies into its own operations. These technologies include things like e-commerce platforms.
