London-based Admiral Recruitment, specialist recruiter to the hospitality sector, has won the Finance, Legal & Professional Services Employer category of the Asian Apprenticeship Awards 2018 for its support of apprentices in the workplace.

The awards recognise and celebrate the superb level of talent within the British Asian community and the support they receive from their employers and learning providers.

The winners were announced at a gala dinner on Thursday 29th November at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham.

Paula Rogers, founder of Admiral Recruitment, said: “Last year, one of our apprentices, Mehreen Ayub, was honoured at the same awards programme so we are incredibly proud to receive this award as it is a direct reflection of our values.

“Often a first port of call in the recruitment process, we are very aware of how important it is to highlight to our clients the benefits of what a more diverse workforce brings.

“Regardless of gender, age, nationality or background, what is vital is that we encourage confidence, diversity and more inclusion in the workplace. This can mean, for example,  introducing clients to candidates who have come up through the ranks via an apprenticeship rather than an academic route or indeed, a variety of other routes. We have seen first-hand the enormous benefits this brings to our business.

“Diversity is about open mindedness and acceptance of everyone and supporting them to fulfil their passion and potential in life.”

For over 23 years Admiral Recruitment has carved a reputation within the hospitality sector as the ‘go to’ consultancy for hospitality professionals, with over 100,000 candidates on its live database.

Placements range from senior directorship roles to bespoke senior chefs, front of house and all roles within operations, from interim management and chefs to events, waiters/bar staff, baristas and food service assistants.

55% of Admiral Recruitment’s internal employees are from minority backgrounds.

The company’s gender balance is Male 44%/Female 56%, and 6% of team is under 20 years of age and 24% are over 40, showing that there is no age or gender barriers for people.

When it comes to candidates, 35% on its current database are British, 45% are European, and 20% are non-European.

Paula Rogers said: “Good practice has to start from within. If we are not practising it and engaging in it fully ourselves, we can hardly then go out to market with what we believe is really important.

“Diversity brings a strong culturally diverse workforce of motivated people with different life experiences, outlooks and ideas. We feel very honoured that we have been honoured in this way by the Asian Apprenticeship Awards 2018.”
