These are the top 10 most desirable jobs in the UK right now!

With teacher, designer and office manager topping the list

A recent survey from CV-Library, the UK’s leading independent job site, has revealed that over half (54.5%) of the nation’s professionals are unhappy in their current role. What’s more, 41.5% said they aren’t currently working in their desired field, potentially contributing towards their dissatisfaction at work.

The survey of 1,100 UK workers compiled a list of some of the most popular jobs across the nation. Respondents were then asked to vote for which job they’d like to have if there were no restrictions (e.g qualifications). The results revealed that the most desirable jobs in the UK right now are:

  • Teacher – 18.3%
  • Designer – 17.1%
  • Office Manager – 16.8%
  • IT Technician – 15%
  • Accountant – 12.8%
  • Athlete – 12.5%
  • Mechanical Engineer – 12.3%
  • Recruiter – 11.7%
  • Brand Manager – 10.9%
  • Journalist – 10.7%

Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library comments:

“It’s interesting to see that being a teacher came top of the list given the ongoing staff shortages in the industry right now. It’s also great to see that some of the more traditional occupations such as accountant, technician and recruiter made the list.

“With the introduction of new technologies and the ever-growing popularity of freelance work, it can often feel like some of the key professions such as healthcare are being disregarded. Instead, it’s clear that many workers are opting for online roles, such as brand manager, instead.”

Despite over a third (37.5%) of professionals confessing that they’d be more likely to take a job that had the word ‘manager’ in the title, almost half (44.4%) agreed that having fun at work and enjoying your job is more important than your salary.

Biggins concludes: “It’s good to see that job satisfaction is a priority for many of the nation’s professionals. In today’s uncertain economy, it can be all too easy to focus on money and making a living; but we spend a great deal of our time at work so it’s important that we enjoy what we do.

No matter what industry you operate in, employers need to ensure that they’re doing their best to create a great company culture and keep staff happy and motivated. It’s clear that this is the key to productivity and strong staff retention rates.”
