To get selected in the company of your choice is a difficult task, and not everyone is successful.
Every company has its own hiring procedure which always initiates with an interview. Every person has to go through an interview to get selected. Preparation of the interview should be done beforehand to succeed. Cracking an interview brings you closer to your dream job.
People make many mistakes during the interview sessions because of nervousness. Being nervous is a common thing but not doing anything to avoid it can shatter your dreams and you will not be able to get your dream job.
A lot of freshers prepare themselves every year to get the job of their dreams but fail to crack the interview. Getting ready to dive into the corporate world not only makes them excited but also anxious. Everyone gets that anxiety because of which they make errors which knock them down in an interview.
Following is the list of some errors that are made by the candidates in a job interview:
1. COMING FOR THE INTERVIEW WITHOUT PREPARATION:
Not researching about the company or the interviewer is the biggest mistake. If the interviewer asks you what do you know about the company and you are not prepared for this question that it might make an impression that you don’t want to work there. Know everything thing about the company as the name of the interviewer, designation, achievements etc.
2. TRIFLING CONVERSATIONS:
Asking for salary and other benefits in the starting makes a very bad impression. You should always ask about the responsibilities and duties that you need to fulfill. Just tell them how you would prove to be an asset to the company and be less concerned with how the company will be an asset to you.
MY ACTUAL EXPERIENCE IN THIS REGARD:
I once went for an interview with a company and my interview was going quite well until they asked me a question, DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? To which I answered WHAT’S THE SALARY AND OTHER INCENTIVES? I never heard from them again.
3. GIVING WRONG RECOMMENDATIONS:
Every company asks for some recommendations when you go for an interview. Providing recommendations for your friends and family or some other personal contact is another error that most of the candidates make. Always give professional recommendations to get selected in the interview.
4. COMPLAINING ABOUT THE PREVIOUS EMPLOYER:
Candidates sometimes, try to put down the company for which they have worked in the future which makes a negative impact on the interviewer. If you cant let go of the past, it will knock you down in the interview.
5. FAILING ON SOCIAL MEDIA:
There are chances that the interviewer is looking for you on social sites. They should like what they see on your profiles. Career coach Chantay Bridges says the candidate should not post that he or she has been unsuccessful in cracking all the interviews attempted by them. This might work against you.
6. NOT BEING PUNCTUAL:
Reaching late at the interview site can make a bad impression about your sincerity towards the company. You should always reach the place 15 minutes before the time scheduled for the interview. Reaching before time will help you to get relaxed and calm.
7. NOT CARRYING THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
Not carrying the certificates, resumes and other specified documents will portray you as an irresponsible person in front of the interviewer and can work against you. Make sure to carry the original documents as well as their copies.
8. NOT WORKING ON PHYSICAL APPEARANCE:
Unattractive appearance, poor body language makes a bad impression on the interviewer. Employers always look for energetic persons who can fit into their organization and perform all the activities with zeal and energy.
“The FIRST IMPRESSION IS THE LAST IMPRESSION.” Making a bad impression in an untidy appearance will impact interviewer’s choice for selecting you.
9. HAVING AN INDIRECT APPROACH:
Persons who have an indirect approach always looses over persons who have a direct approach. If you do not communicate directly, the interviewer will never understand that what you can do for the company and what will be your contributions towards it.
10. CONCENTRATING ON YOUR WEAKNESSES:
Describe all your strengths and weaknesses which will help the interviewer to know you better but never present your weaknesses in a way which might work against you. Concentrating too much on your weaknesses can knock you down.
Searching for jobs is a stressful experience. Making errors while giving interview can further worsen the situation. Whenever a company contacts you to invite you for a job interview, the happiness is accompanied by the anxiety because of which the above errors are bound to happen.
