Cloud platform cracks open benefits market to small and microbusiness employers

A new cloud-based service makes it practical for start-ups and small businesses to compete with the biggest employers on benefits packages and retain the best people.

Untangl aims to overcome the traditional problems of cost, complexity and use of management time, enabling smaller businesses to provide a professional employee benefits service.

Benefits available through the single platform include life cover, optical, dental, therapies (acupuncture, chiropractic and osteopathy), private health consultation, 24/7 GP doctor helpline, health screening, personal accident insurance, counselling support, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, legal helpline, gym discounts and retail discounts for major purchases.

CEO Richard Stewart, who co-founded Untangl in February 2015, said: “Around half of all employees in the UK work for small or micro businesses - but can’t get access to health and other support benefits common among larger employers.

“A dysfunctional distribution system and 65 years of disjointed tax rules means the process for implementing employee benefits is complex and time consuming. The benefits industry finds it almost impossible to engage with small firms, and trying to navigate the system looks like a waste of time for small business owners.

“Our job has been to look at what’s needed to change and fix it. Now employers of any size can access high-level benefits offerings for their people in minutes, then get on with running their business."

The process is based on a much-simplified online sign-up, with no paper forms or duplicated data entry, just capturing name, date of birth and gender. Owners are provided with a quote and a small number of screening questions and the benefits cover is in place.

There is no set-up fee and low monthly charges (from around £25 per employee per month). Untangl's service charge is being waived during the launch offer period.

Untangl's offering is based on services delivered by its partners, major benefits providers Canada Life and Westfield Health.
