Recruitment consultants hit the high seas to help gorillas27/09/2007 09:40:00One team member, Niall McCann, 25, works for IT industry specialist Sanderson Recruitment. His employer is the biggest sponsor of Pan Atlantic, having put £15,000 towards the purchase of the 24 by 6 foot boat, christened Komale. His colleague, James Burge, 26, works for Bristol-based Resource Direct, which is also a sponsor. Founded earlier this year, Resource Direct specialises in finding and placing first-time and experienced job seekers with employers in Bristol. It is a sister company of national consultancy Sanderson Recruitment Both recruitment consultancies are providing a three-month sabbatical for the team. Part of this time will be spent participating in great ape conservation work in Cameroon, which will also be a major beneficiary of sponsorship money raised by the ocean crossing. The sea trial took place over 22 and 23 September on Southampton Water, with Mr McCann commenting, “As expected, the boat performed brilliantly on open water and we had no problem spending a full 24 hours afloat. We also got a chance to race against four other boats participating in the crossing, winning very comfortably.” The two consultants last month set the world record for rowing one million metres on a rowing machine. They intend to set another record by being the fastest ever two-man crew across the Atlantic. The pair will attempt the challenge without clothes, to cut down on chafing, which has led to them being nicknamed The Naked Rowers.
