“English language courses are fundamental to the success of new arrivals from Europe and also for those EU nationals and others already settled in Britain. Not only do these classes provide an understanding of the English language, but they open up a broader range of work opportunities and help people to blend into society more successfully,” explained James Strickland, Group Director of Omega Resource Group
The move by Omega follows Education Minister Bill Rammell’s declaration that the current funding set-up for immigrants is “unsustainable” since demand has tripled. The government spent £279 million on funding for 540,000 students to learn English throughout 2004 – 2005. Costing the government far more than first anticipated, new plans proposed will cut complementary classes.
The Omega Training centre will be based in Warsaw, Poland, where the group has pioneered the successful recruitment of candidates through a variety of skills tests at assessment centres. “The language school will benefit both clients and candidates,” says Strickland. “Once the candidates have been recruited, they will take part in an appropriate three month English course, which will enable them to develop their language and literacy skills. New recruits will start their assignments with confidence, whilst clients will benefit from a workforce which is productive from day one.”
“Overcoming language barriers will produce positive improvements not just socially but legally. Improving candidates’ reading and understanding of English will assist in the comprehension of and health and safety notices, employment rules, contracts, fire regulations.”
