Preparation is key to job interview success

02/10/2006 10:04:00

Over half (53 per cent) of office workers admit they could know more about the companies they apply to before they go for a job interview, according to an online poll conducted by OfficeTeam, a provider of specialised administrative personnel on a temporary and full-time basis.

The poll also reveals that almost one in five (16 per cent) candidates say they have little knowledge of the company they are being interviewed by and seven per cent say they have no knowledge at all. Conversely, the survey shows that just under a quarter of office workers (22 per cent) say they are adequately prepared and feel they know enough when going into a job interview.

Victoria Sprott, Regional Director for OfficeTeam comments:

“It is important that applicants do as much research as possible prior to going for an interview. It is particularly worrying to see the results of this recent poll which show that the majority of candidates go into interview situations under prepared. Being armed with an in-depth understanding of both the business and the industry in which they operate is the best way to develop rapport and demonstrate your value to prospective employers.”
