Worldwide number of DSL users increases

.

The Register reports that the number of DSL users worldwide almost tripled during 2001.

This is according to data released by PointTopic. Worldwide DSL users reached almost 19 million at the end of 2001, compared to just 6.5 million in 2000.

However, the Register reports that price is still a hindrance in the take-up of DSL. It indicates that Europe remains the most expensive region to subscribe to DSL, with charges ranging between USD50 and USD75 per month.

This compares to around USD50 in the US, and between USD20 and USD50 per month in Asia Pacific.
