Women in Tech call for change in curriculum

Women in Tech is calling on schools & universities to make tech more appealing to females following research that female students are put off by perceptions of lack of opportunity, male domination and salary gaps.

The lack of women working in the IT & tech sector is an ongoing concern, especially in large corporations who are struggling to tighten the gender gap.

Women in Tech is a site dedicated to women already in or looking to join the tech sector. It has observed the concerning gender gap within the tech sector and conducted research to find out why this is.

Research from Women in Tech shows that over half of school students believe males have more opportunities in IT & tech subjects and a third of female school leavers are put off these subjects because they are male dominated.

Another issue Women in Tech found to be a barrier for women, is that the majority of female school leavers perceive they won’t get paid as much as men which is a key factor when choosing their future careers.

Charlotte Attwood, Marketing Executive at Women in Tech feels that encouraging women from an early age to study IT & Tech subjects are essential: “The tech industry relies on schools to embed influence on females to study tech subjects. This influence starts as early as choosing GCSE subjects. If women are encouraged at this stage they will be more likely to study it in further education and then go onto choosing tech careers. “

Women in Tech is a site dedicated to helping women become successful in the IT & Tech sector.
