Over 100 undergraduates were shortlisted for last Friday’s TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year Awards at a gala ceremony in Canary Wharf - and women dominated the winners’ podium.
The TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year Awards, now in its sixth year, features 12 prestigious awards, each sponsored by a prominent graduate recruiter and each offering fantastic prizes for the winner, including paid internships, trips abroad and meetings with senior executives. This year’s competition attracted over 3,500 entries from undergraduates studying at 140 different universities.
The best performing universities were Manchester and UCL with two winners each. Of the twelve awards, eight were won by women.
The twelve winners were:
- Chelsea Sievewright, studying Ethical Hacking at Abertay University, won the Computer Science Undergraduate of the Year Award, sponsored by CGI.
- Jessica Dowdy, studying Construction Project Management at Oxford Brookes University, won the Construction Engineering and Design Undergraduate of the Year Award, sponsored by Laing O’Rourke.
- Jessica Rafter, studying Integrated Engineering at Cardiff University, won the Engineering Undergraduate of the Year Award, sponsored by E.ON.
- Aleksandra Pedraszewska, studying Land Economy at the University of Cambridge, won the Female Undergraduate of the Year Award, sponsored by Rolls-Royce.
- Lynne Howie, studying Business Economics and Finance at the University of Strathclyde, won the Future Business Leader of the Year Award, sponsored by Mars.
- Aatuallah Naser, studying Mathematics at the University of Manchester, won the Future CFO of the Year Award, sponsored by ACCA.
- Aysel Kucuksu, studying English and European Law at Queen Mary University of London, won the Languages Undergraduate of the Year Award, sponsored by EU Careers.
- Cara Goldthorpe, studying Law with French Law at UCL, won the Law Undergraduate of the Year Award, sponsored by Mayer Brown.
- Rahul Taneja, studying Chemical Engineering at the University of Manchester, won the Low Carbon Energy Undergraduate of the Year Award, sponsored by EDF Energy.
- Harrison Dent, studying European Social and Political Studies at UCL, won the Male Undergraduate of the Year Award, sponsored by L’Oreal.
- Nathan Craig, studying Industrial Economics at the University of Nottingham, won the Management Undergraduate of the Year, sponsored by Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
- Katy Barlow, studying Maths and Economics at St. Andrews, won the Mathematics, Economics and Finance Undergraduate of the Year Award sponsored by Gazprom.
The TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year Awards seek to identify and celebrate the UK's best undergraduates, through a series of challenging online tests and assessment centres. The final shortlist of ten for each award was invited to a ceremony in London where the winners were announced by the leading TV journalist and presenter Fiona Bruce.
