US loss may be Indiaís gain - 07/2001

-

The downturn in the US economy could prove a boom for technology workers in India, according to a report from Reuters.

Many global players in the tech industry are planning to outsource work to India, where salaries for tech workers are far lower than in the US.

Recruitment analysts say most of the new jobs will come from companies that already have bases in India, such as Hewlett-Packard and Veritas Software.

That said, such prestigious names as the MIT Media Lab are currently planning to open operations in India. The Media Lab alone intends to invest up to USD1 billion in India over the next decade.
