The curious case of the literary recruitment consultant

A consultant who works for Headway Recruitment in London has been unmasked – as an author of Sherlock Holmes books

A consultant who works for Headway Recruitment in London has been unmasked – as an author of Sherlock Holmes books.

Luke Kuhns’ colleagues at parent company Berry Recruitment Group (BRG) were unaware of his nocturnal hobby until his new opus was unveiled ahead of its publication.

The Scarlet Thread of Murder is a pair of novellas that continue the stories of the world’s favourite detective.

Luke, 27, who moved to the UK from America in 2008 to study, has worked for Headway for two years.

Previously he has published books of short stories and several ‘comic’ novels, but his latest book is the most ambitious yet.

He said: “When I moved to the UK I didn’t know many people so in the evenings I started writing.

“This new book is a pair of novellas about Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson. The first is The Scarlet Thread of Murder and has three plot lines that intertwine.

“The second is called A Scandal in America and takes Holmes to the US and he even visits my home town of Pendleton in Indiana.

“They are pastiches but there is still a hungry market for Sherlock Holmes’ stories and I enjoy writing them.

“I love the sense of adventure and the bizarre and the setting in Victorian London. It was a time that was on the brink of the modern world with forensics but also linked to the past.”

Headway Recruitment is based in prestigious offices in Hanover Square along with The Plus Team, another recent BRG acquisition.

Headway was founded in 1996 and specialises in both temporary and permanent recruitment across office support, customer service, call centre and HR roles with a broad range of clients across London.

Chris Chown, Managing Director of Berry Recruitment Group, said: “When we purchased Headway Recruitment earlier this year we knew it was a great business but we didn’t know we were getting our very own Arthur Conan Doyle.

“It’s no mystery that we have some amazing staff and we’re delighted that Luke’s new book is being published and I’m sure we’ll all be reading it.”

The Scarlet Thread of Murder published by MX Publishing is released on October 30 and is available from all good websites.
