The Association of Independent Professionals and the Self-Employed (IPSE), has reacted Chancellor George Osborne's speech, welcoming his announcement of a National Infrastructure Commission.
IPSE Policy Director Simon McVicker, said:
"We applaud the positive step in ensuring the UK has a long term plan for investment in our road and rail networks. The newly announced National Infrastructure Commission is the right platform to deliver long term projects. This independent body must make sure successive Governments are committed to delivering world class infrastructure.
"We called for a Commission in our Manifesto ahead of the General Election as we believe poor infrastructure is one of the biggest challenges highly mobile workers face.
“The Chancellor delivered a speech intended to reassure the business community that Government is on its side. There were positive messages for this group to take away, but some self-employed people will be a little disappointed Mr Osborne didn’t speak more about issues that affect them most, such as a simpler tax system and bringing down the cost of doing business.”
On business rates reforms, McVicker continued:
"We hope local councils recognise the value the self-employed contribute to the economy. Councils can support them by ensuring competitive business rates for work hubs and shared workspaces. These spaces are vital entrepreneurial communities where independent professionals can develop their businesses in a supportive environment with their peers."
