REC’s campaign for good recruitment reaches 2 million UK employees

The REC’s Good Recruitment Campaign has received the backing of some of the UK’s largest employers, with John Lewis Partnership, BBC, Tesco, ARM Holdings plc, Schroders, BAE Systems and Compass Group UK & Ireland signing up in recent weeks and making a public commitment to best practice in recruitment.

More than 200 organisations employing more than 2 million staff in the UK have signed the Good Recruitment Charter since the campaign launched, pledging to promote diversity and inclusion, offer flexible working arrangements, provide an excellent candidate experience and lead the way to promote ethical and professional recruitment practices.

REC chief executive Kevin Green said:

“Business success is dependent upon attracting and retaining talented people. Organisations across the private and public sectors recognise this and want know how they can improve.

“Our aim with the Good Recruitment Campaign is to bring together likeminded HR and recruitment professionals to share knowledge, raise standards, and commit to excellent practice. The fact that the UK’s largest employers are prepared to endorse the campaign speaks volumes about the value it brings to their employer brand.

“We’ve just launched a new online information hub to support the campaign, and we’re looking forward to welcoming even more employers at our 2017 programme of events.”

John Whelan, UK HR director at BAE Systems, said:

“BAE Systems is delighted to join the Good Recruitment Campaign. The recruitment and retention of talent is of upmost important to businesses at all times, but even more so in a time of skill shortages. The opportunity to get involved in a cost-free campaign that allows us access to a network of peers and to research to help us get better at attracting talent was an easy decision.”

Melanie Hayes, resourcing & development director, Compass Group UK & Ireland, said:

“I am delighted that Compass Group UK & Ireland is now part of the Good Recruitment Campaign. As one of the UK’s largest private employers with approximately 60,000 staff, our people are the heart of our business, and we are passionate about being an employer of choice.

“Our partnership with the Good Recruitment Campaign will support us in our wider commitment to attract, develop and retain talented colleagues. In addition, the opportunity to gain insight and views from peers at other organisations is invaluable. Recruiting the right talent is important for any business, but doing it in the right way is key. I would encourage as many employers as possible to get involved in this great campaign.”

Other organisations that have joined the GRC in the last six months include: Vodafone, Shazam, West Ham, DHL, PWC, Caterpillar, Clifford Chance, Mencap, Whitbread, Transport for London, Warwickshire County Council, and Game.
