Recruitment agency Brightwork dances the night away for Maggie’s and raises £50,000

An impressive £50,000 was raised for the Maggie’s Centre charity at an annual Strictly Come Dancing-themed event held at Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza Hotel on Saturday 19th November which was supported by Brightwork, the Glasgow and Edinburgh-based recruitment agency.

A recent winner of a UK-wide award for Best Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiative, Brightwork staff helped arrange the evening and donated £3500 on the night.

The event, which has been running for four years, raises funds for the charity which provides practical, emotional and social support for cancer sufferers, their family and friends.

Five hundred people watched eight professional dancers paired with eight amateur partners strut their stuff. Training started in March, so months of hard work went into the competition. Actor Mark Cox, who plays Tam from Still Game, has competed, and last year Brightwork Recruitment’s own MD, Charles Turner also strutted his stuff on the dance floor.

This year, Scott Winter, owner of SPD Print and Media Group and professional dancer Leanne Docherty won the prize, narrowly beating Darroch Ramsay, marketing manager of Glasgow Warriors and professional partner Kay Hamilton in the dance off. Six attendees were so caught up in the glamour they pledged £1000 each to dance in next year’s competition.

Raffle prizes were donated by William Grant and Sons, Chivas, Speyside Distillers and Highland Spring, representative of which attended on the night.

Brian Cairney, Executive board director with Brightwork Recruitment, and regular volunteer with Maggie’s Centre, said: “This event has been running for a few years now, and it fills me with pride to see it get stronger and better known each year.

“People are so generous with their time and money and it’s all for a charity that is close to my heart. Brightwork puts CSR front and centre and I love being part of a company that devotes itself to leaving the world a better place than we found it.”

Lorraine McInnes spokesperson for Just Dance for Maggies on behalf of Maggie’s at Gartnavel Hospital said: “Brian and his wife, Margaret, have been helping Maggie’s for as long as I can remember. It’s great to have the kind of staunch support that lets us help all those afflicted by cancer.”
