Not preparing for the cold snap will cost businesses dearly warns property maintenance entrepreneur

Making sure that commercial properties are checked regularly and correctly maintained during cold weather will save businesses money in the long run warns property maintenance entrepreneur Will Davies

Making sure that commercial properties are checked regularly and correctly maintained during cold weather will save businesses money in the long run warns property maintenance entrepreneur Will Davies.

Last weekend was the coldest weekend of the British winter so far and the Met. Office is not predicting a let up in the cold weather anytime soon.

“Too many businesses underestimate the impact from ice, snow, rain and strong wind on their properties. Repairing damage during times of severe weather will be costly and in some instances impossible. Instigating a simple regime of maintenance checks is sure to save businesses money in the long run,” said Mr Davies – co founder of property maintenance and refurbishment company aspect.co.uk

“Look out for signs of weather damage to the roof, gutters, drains, door and window frames. Nipping any problems in the bud before they turn into big maintenance jobs is sure to keep costs down. And, giving your property regular checks and MOTs will keep those big tasks at bay, and help to keep the property looking attractive to your customers,” said Mr Davies.

Wind chill factors brought temperatures down as low as -15C (5F) in some parts of the UK last weekend and the Met Office has graded the weather as Health Alert Level Three – which is considered serious especially for the elderly.

“Bad weather can be especially hard on the old folks, especially during a time of record power costs, and everyone should try and play a part in making simple checks on the vulnerability of their homes to harsh weather,” said Mr Davies.

The National Federation of Occupational Pensioners has reported that deaths among its members have increased by 100% since the New Year and is warning that this year could see the worst death toll amongst the elderly since 2008/9.

“If you live near old people it only takes half an hour to pop round and see if they are coping OK and make a few simple maintenance checks on their properties,” said Mr Davies.
