More French users buying online

Europemedia reports that seven million French Internet users, or 73.4 percent of the online population in France, visited an ecommerce site last November.

This is according to NetValue. In November 2000, only 4.6 million French net users visited ecommerce sites.

The research firm also found that 42.4 percent of French Internet users visited the secure sections of ecommerce sites in November 2001, indicating they were transacting online, or considering making a transaction.

Music and books sites are the most popular, visited by 38.8 percent of users, followed by financial services sites, which are visited by 34.3 percent of users. Retail sites, hardware sites, and software sites also attract high traffic.

The most popular individual sites last November were Fnac.com, Alapage.com, Amazon.fr, Voyages-sncf.com, and Rueducommerce.com.
