Italian region of Veneto launches ëPortale Veneto Lavoroí in joint initiative - 06/2001

-

The Italian Ministry of Employment has selected Sybaseís Enterprise Portal (EP) to provide the citizens and businesses of Veneto (Italyís fastest growing region) with direct access to information
about local jobs and the local workforce through a portal. The ëPortale Veneto Lavoroí is effectively an online recruitment service, offering uninterrupted 24/7 operation, unlimited scalability to cater for traffic peaks, comprehensive security servicesí effective content organisation and personalisation management. The system also provides an automated profile matching capability and signal available employment opportunities to
potential candidates by email or mobile phone text messages.

Conceived as an innovative response to employment market issues, the EP will exploit the potential of the Internet to put jobseekers in contact with companies looking to fill vacancies. The service will cut down bureaucracy by simplifying processes and providing easy and quick to fill in forms. About three years ago, the Italian Ministry of Employment decided to implement a ëSistema Informativo Lavoroí (Employment Information System) as part of the process to modernise the public administration and equip job centres throughout Italy with NetLabor3, a specialist administrative software package developed by Insiel, based on the Sybase database platform. Key objectives in the development of the portal were to create a meeting point for jobseekers and companies and to provide access to guidance and consulting services.

The public has free access to general information services, recruitment information and training courses. Individual and associated subscribers to
the portalís services such as trade associations, training schools and business contacts are given a password to access selected databases including CVs.
Sybase has implemented the portal and provided the necessary architecture and technology, including solutions to integrate the NetLabor3 application software with the portal. It is providing all the main components: application server; connectivity middleware search engine; content
management, user profiling and service/data personalisation tools; development and deployment environments. Collaborating with Sybase on the project are Insiel and Consiel. The hosting will be undertaken by Telerete.

Sergio Rosato, director of Veneto Lavoro comments: ìToday, thanks to greater autonomy and de-centralisation, more and more public administrations are committed to exploiting the potential of the web, not just to increase internal efficiency, but also to offer innovative ëservicesí both in terms of what they contain and how they are delivered. Our Portale Lavoro project is a step in the right direction, replacing the old job centre concept, with its lists and authorisations, with consulting, guidance, training and recruitment services featuring rapid response and constantly updated information.î
