IT recruitment and consultancy, Ecitrim, launches Medical Recruitment arm

As 70% of Nurses demand Agency work.

Ecitrim Limitedís new healthcare division, Ecitrim Medical, presented its Recruitment arm at the nursing RCN Jobs Fair. This proved to be an excellent opportunity for Ecitrimís staff to meet with over 250 nursing personnel who are looking to use a Recruitment Agency for their next medical placement.

By employing Recruitment Consultants from a medical background themselves, (former nurses and midwifes), Ecitrim ensures that candidates and clients are dealt with accurately and professionally, and understand the stringent protocol, rules and regulations and general set up of working in the medical profession.

For Barbara Parris, Nursing Recruitment Consultant and former Midwife, the fair gave her the opportunity to meet up with many new grade-D Nurses, ìI met a lot of newly qualified nurses who would appreciate advice, temporary shifts and work placements through Ecitrim Medical. It was interesting to discuss current debates surrounding the nursing profession and to understand the need for many Nurses to work through agencies such as ours to secure a level of income as well as experience. A lot of Nurses I spoke to felt very comfortable dealing with Ecitrim Medical due to the fact that recruitment is dealt with by medically trained staff and this enables them and us to talk ìshopîî

However, not all Nurses seemed happy with the way Agency recruitment has evolved. Ecitrim Medical also discovered that the Nurses are very unhappy with the recent changes made by the government in regards to the recruitment process and the new rules agencies have to adhere to. One Nurse explained ìI work through agencies as the pay rate is much better, and have worked this way for years. They have always offered me flexibility and the option of different work experience. Then my agency explained that recruitment is to be dealt with in a different way with NHS Professionals holding all the vacancies from the trusts around the country, and the agencies desperately bidding to be a ìpreferred supplierî to them. I needed a transfer for personal reasons and asked my agency to move me to a different hospital. Unfortunately, they couldnít as they were unable to provide that hospitals trust with nurses due to not being on their agency list, and I had to spend a week searching for an agency that did. Not only was that difficult to organise whilst working, but I felt I was being unfaithful to the agency I had been working with for years, and costly as I had to meet this new agency and pay for registration, including new police checks etc. It seems ludicrous that this country is desperate for nurses, yet agencies canít place us.î Another Nurse commented ìThey want Nurses for 17k a year, in London we canít survive on this salary. 70% of us want to work with agencies.î During the course of the fair, this was a familiar story.
