Investment in People Paying Dividends for Omega

Investment in people strategies help Omega continue downward trend in attrition rates

Specialist recruitment company Omega Resource Group is benefitting from its own investment in people strategies as staff retention levels continue to increase. The recruitment industry has one of the highest attrition rates of any sector at 43%. In comparison, the turnover rate in 2014/2015 for Omega bucked the industry average recording 21.77%. Additionally, Omega has a promotion rate of 62%, higher than most businesses in any industry.

“We are continually encouraging our clients to invest in good people in order to not only reduce attrition rates, but also improve their day-to-day business activity. To showcase good practice, it made complete sense for us to add to our investment in people strategies with further initiatives,” says Rachel Harber, HR and Operations Director for the Stonehouse-based global engineering and technical specialist recruitment firm. “In addition to our competitive salaries and benefits packages, we are investing in talent development, incorporating the creation of a dedicated training area for our trainee programme, all as part of a complete office refurbishment. Also, we are providing continual progression of our staff throughout the company, including a leadership programme for our current and future managers. This is all part of our employee engagement and talent management strategy.”

With more than 100 staff throughout the group, it is important that we have the right people in the correct jobs. Recognising current and future talent and implementing a development plan is a big part of future proofing the business. To date 62% have changed jobs, to the extent that all are not only still at the company, but all enjoy job satisfaction.

One such example is Amy Harris, who has progressed to her current role of Team Manager at Omega. Explains Amy, “I joined Omega in 2006 as a Trainee Technical Consultant, which was my first ever office bound role. Since then, I have had an incredible journey, which has taken me up the promotional ladder through to my current position, whereby I manage a team of 16 technical consultants and am responsible for the training and development of all new employees joining the business. Throughout my career with Omega, I have benefitted from being able to challenge myself in different areas of the business, and therefore perform in roles that best suit my abilities and desired progression route.”

Continues Harber, “Growth in our industry can be hard to achieve, but at Omega we believe we have got the right blend of strong people and dedicated training initiatives. In the last 12 months alone we have not only decreased our attrition rate, but also continued to grow the business.”
