Combatting the shortage of teachers

A new web alliance which aims to help the Government's initiative to encourage qualified teachers who have left the profession to return to the classroom has been forged by one of the UKs top online recruitment services and one of the leading education websites in the country.

The unique link-up weaves www.jobsineducation.co.uk into the structure of www.schoolzone.co.uk to publish a nationwide network of employment opportunities, and will help combat the shortage of teachers in key subjects like maths and science.

The link-up enables head-teachers to advertise vacancies on the Internet within minutes of learning that they are about to arise, and provides practical and lifestyle information for jobseekers who are looking to re-locate.

The information can be accessed from Schoolzone and Jobsin as well as through a network of over 28,000 websites with which Jobsin has forged alliances.

Schoolzone is a comprehensive education web-portal providing access for teachers to free resources, worksheets, news, and information about recruitment, relocation, events and fundraising. It helps students and kids with studies and career advice and there is a database of schools and guides on educational issues for parents.

Philip Collie from Schoolzone said: We have made this alliance because the traditional recruitment system is slow and cumbersome. We believe that the Internet is a perfect recruitment tool and will enable us to help schools tackle their many skill shortages in a powerful and purposeful way.

This initiative may even encourage qualified teachers who have left the profession - perhaps to raise families or pursue other careers -to return to the classroom.

Simon Maisey, chief executive officer of Jobsin said the site provides free information to the 100,000 or so teachers who change their jobs each year -often moving to schools in other regions.
