Half of Australians use the net

.

Newsbytes reports that half of Australians used the Internet in the 12 months ending in June 2001.

This is according to the Australian Communications Authority, which says that a third of Australian households had Internet access by June 2001.

By that time, 56 percent of Australians, or 11.1 million people, had a mobile phone, up 25 percent on the year before. Only 5 percent of these had WAP phones, however.

Last June was the first time that the number of mobile phones in Australia exceeded the number of fixed-line connections.
