GetMyFirstJob partners with National Citizen Service to boost young people’s social and professional skills

Today, the leading apprenticeship matching service and social enterprise, GetMyFirstJob, has announced a new partnership with National Citizen Service (NCS) to help improve the social and professional skills of young people in the UK.

The partnership will provide NCS graduates with access to the many apprenticeship opportunities GetMyFirstJob offers on its site. GetMyFirstJob will also be tracking apprenticeship applicants who are NCS graduates into successful apprenticeship roles so the benefits of their programme can be quantified.

Today’s announcement follows recent statistics which reveal a 14,000 rise over the past year in the number of young people not in education, employment, or training in the UK. The collaboration between the government-backed NCS and GetMyFirstJob aims to help reduce this figure by building the skills of school leavers and providing new avenues to work.

National Citizen Service helps young people aged 16 and 17 to transition into sixth form, college or employment. The programme, which is a community driven initiative, encourages pupils from different schools to work together in teams in order to learn new professional and life skills, and deliver a social action project in their local community.

Laura Gibbon, Director of Partnerships at NCS Trust, said: “NCS is already being recognised by employers as developing a significant talent pipeline of work ready young people. We want to work with organisations, such as GetMyFirstJob, who can help ensure these young people have the resources they need so they can successfully transition into employment.”

David Allison, CEO of GetMyFirstJob said: “National Citizen Service has for many years demonstrated real leadership in helping develop skills and confidence in young people to improve both work and life opportunities, and we are delighted to be teaming up with them.”

“Working together, our main goal is to provide the resources that young people need to ultimately find the right roles for them. Through the development of skills that our candidates will receive on NCS prior to their apprenticeships, I am certain we will see many more candidates go on to be very successful, and to be fully equipped for their careers ahead.”

Launched in 2012, GetMyFirstJob is an innovative web platform that matches young people to the right apprenticeship based on their skillset and needs. With over 300,000 candidates registered since inception, GetMyFirstJob processes over 30,000 applications each month and works with over 150 colleges, employers and providers nationwide.
