Free e-mail for school children - 12/2000

In an initiative thought to be the first in the world, France's 12 million school children and around one million teachers are to receive free e-mail addresses for life. The agreement between the minister of education and the postal service will ensure that all children from kindergarten to high school age are eligible for the service. The agreement is set to come into effect on January 3rd. The format of the address will be 'surname.first'.
