Ex KPMG Managing partner, Graham Oates Joins and invests in Norrie Johnston Recruitment

Norrie Johnston Recruitment (NJR), which specialises in senior level, permanent and interim recruitment, reports that Graham Oates has purchased a 10% stake in the company and has joined the firm as a Director.  He will fulfill a leadership role in the development of the company’s service offerings to technology and international clients.

Graham was a senior partner at KPMG for 14 years and managing partner and member of the UK Board. During this period he built the IT Consulting business for KPMG UK to a £50m turnover operation employing 500 people.  He also launched the firm’s internet operation, Metrius Europe, oversaw the growth of the KPMG business in the Asia Pacific market and spearheaded joint ventures with Compaq, Microsoft and Cisco Systems.

Oates' appointment is a clear further signal of NJR's ambitious growth plans. Formed in 2013, by e-recruitment pioneer, Norrie Johnston, the firm has grown rapidly.  In recent months the company has agreed a joint venture with online profiling specialists SalesMatch and has created NJR Digital.

Norrie Johnston says: "Graham has a tremendous track record building multi-million pound businesses. These ventures grew quickly because they offered something discernibly different to the corporate community they served and they were focused on service. That’s our stated vision for NJR. So to have Graham not just on the board, but also investing in NJR shows that our vision of creating a genuinely different kind of recruitment business has real substance."

Graham Oates, who has also been Chair of the Insolvency Service and Executive Chair of Tribute the £1.5 bn revenue rail ticketing software business, agrees that he has been attracted by the firm’s proposition:

“I was excited to join Norrie Johnston for two main reasons: the quality of the people and the values of the organisation. The team really knows the recruitment sector, and the firm is completely focused on providing a high-quality, tailored service. I have worked in professional services for over 30 years and I know that these factors are critical to success.

“Norrie and his team are brilliantly positioned to build a recruitment business which will compete with the standards of the best in the industry but with the flexibility to provide the highly personalised service of the boutique operator. That’s an incredibly powerful combination.”

Norrie Johnston Recruitment is focused on filling senior interim and permanent £70,000 to £250,000 roles, using a mix of technology plus, importantly, traditional search, employing best of breed recruiters. It argues that this combination of technology-enabled, top recruiters means the agency can provide hand-picked short lists of perfectly matched senior interim candidates within 4 days while for permanent roles the timeframe from brief to short list will be 21 days.
