Nokia is participating in yet another exciting project to scope out future talent and give youths a platform via which to develop their careers. This time Nokia is one of the partners of the 2014 Millennium Youth Camp (with some of the others including the likes of Neste Oil and KONE Corporation). With Aalto University as the strategic partner, the initiative hosts youths from all over the world at a one-of-a-kind science camp in Finland.

Applications are now open for the 2014 Millennium Youth Camp, which will take place between 3 – 11 June next year, where talented campers interested in natural science, mathematics and technology will come together for an unrivalled educational experience. 60 youths who are keen to explore a career in any of these fields will be introduced to Finnish companies and higher educational institutions, engage with top-level research, and will need to produce innovative project work which will be supervised by industry experts and presented at the end of the camp at the Millennium Youth Camp Gala.

The event was founded in 2010 by Finland’s Science Education Centre, LUMA, and Technology Academy Finland, and has a global reach that includes campers from every continent and more than 40 countries. It therefore gives youths a chance to meet new people from different walks of like, creating a fun and sociable environment for all participants. The week-long camp will offer ample academic inspiration, teach valuable skills and be a great starting point for those who want to pursue a career in sustainable development, whether it is through maths, science or technology.

The camp is open to anyone aged between 16 and 19 that is passionate about the subjects mentioned above. Applications for the first phase are now open and will close on 15 December 2013. You can apply online here. The selection process is rather rigorous so remember to make sure your application stands out. The kinds of things to highlight are a motivation towards science, proof of in depth thinking, and previous accomplishments (for instance, relevant competitions you’ve entered or school projects you’ve excelled at).

The process thereafter looks like this:

  • 2nd stage: 3 February – 3 March 2014 (top 200 applicants selected)
  • Interviews: 3 – 14 March 2014 (top applicants)
  • 60 campers will be selected and announced on 17 March 2014
  • Camp is in Finland from 3 – 11 June 2014

All costs, including flights, are covered by the organisers, making this a truly unique opportunity. For more information visit www.technologyacademy.fi or follow @Tech_Acad_Fin on Twitter.
