ACCA sponsors first-ever undergraduate award to find future CFOs

Five day visit to China and time with finance chiefs on offer to winning students

To promote the value and importance of business careers and to attract the brightest and best students, ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is offering a unique opportunity to the winner and the runner up of the new Future CFO Award at the TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year competition. The top two undergraduates will win a five day trip to Shanghai - one of the world’s fastest growing economies - and access to finance chiefs. The winner will also receive a paid internship this summer to gain valuable work experience.

Mark Cornell, ACCA director, Western Europe and the Americas said: “This is an incredible opportunity to visit a country that experts predict will have the world’s biggest economy within the next decade and get a unique insight from finance leaders working in the Asian market. One of the hardest things graduates find when trying to enter the job market is their lack of work experience, but the winner of this competition won’t face that problem as they will also have a paid internship on their CV to go with the experience of spending time with finance leaders.”

The TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year Awards, now in its sixth year, features 12 prestigious awards, each sponsored by a prominent graduate recruiter and each offering fantastic prizes for the winner, including paid internships, trips abroad and meetings with senior executives. Last year’s competition attracted over 4,400 entries from undergraduates studying at 140 different universities.

The TARGETjobs Undergraduate of the Year Awards seek to identify and celebrate the UK's best undergraduates, through a series of challenging online tests and assessment centres. The final shortlist of ten for each award is invited to a ceremony in London in April where the winners are announced by the leading TV journalist and presenter Fiona Bruce.

Simon Rogers, GTI Media Director, said: “We’re delighted to be working with ACCA to identify outstanding and ambitious undergraduates interested in a career in financial management. With the incentive of a trip to China and the chance to spend time with leading members of the business community there, I’m sure that there will be some outstanding students coming forward.”
