Santander today emphasises its commitment to investing in young talent with the launch of the Santander School Leaver Programme. Following the launch of its graduate programme earlier in 2010, the School Leaver Programme has been designed for post A-level students interested in a career in financial services.

The regional head offices in Belfast, Glasgow and Bradford are offering students the chance to gain invaluable on-the-job experience in a five year structured development programme. Successful candidates will gain experience via a number of customer facing roles across the bank and contact centre networks, whilst also working towards achieving their Chartered Banker Status, a world-class professional qualification equivalent to a degree level qualification.

Simon Lloyd, HR Director, Santander comments, “At Santander our most valuable asset is our people and we have a wide range of support programmes available to staff which provide for truly rewarding careers. The School Leaver Programme is an exciting opportunity for us to develop and retain talent and we see our investment in young talent as being an important step on the road to becoming the best commercial bank in the UK.”

In addition to benefiting from Santander’s excellent career development scheme, school leavers that join Santander will also be entitled to a highly attractive rewards and benefits package. This includes a company pension, discounted health arrangements, retail and childcare discount vouchers as well as access to the Santander Sharesave and Partnership Share schemes.

As with all Santander employees, successful candidates will be encouraged to make the most of volunteering opportunities as part of their learning and development. Santander’s community programme sees employees undertake charity work to help develop team building and organisational skills.
