New graduate careers web portal launch

Introducing the new ëone-stop shopí online library of graduate careers advice resources and job opportunities ñ mygraduatecareer.com

Mygraduatecareer.com is a unique new careers advice web portal that brings together the vast range of organisations and websites dedicated to supporting the under 25s – all in one convenient place. Students can quickly and easily find all the most suitable places available to get the career advice and access to jobs to create a career planner tailored to their own particular needs.

Janet Davies, CEO and founder of mygraduatecareer.com, says “As the parent of a newly minted graduate and having been responsible for graduate recruitment in various organisations myself, I know just how hit and miss an experience it can be for students to navigate the wealth of careers information available online today. Conditions in the graduate employment market are difficult to say the least but there are opportunities out there if you know how, where and, very importantly, when to look. A number of graduate volunteers and recruiters have helped us to create high quality content and index web links for the site over the summer break ready for launch at the start of the new academic year. If graduates want to find everything there is to know about choosing their future career direction, getting on the first rung of the career ladder, post grad study and gap years, they will find pretty much all of it via this one site.”

She continues “Top employers have tough recruitment criteria, high numbers of applicants for fewer places and quite strict timetables for applications. So, it pays for undergrads to be ahead of the game and familiarise themselves with both the job opportunities available and the deadlines and processes involved. The mygraduatecareer.com site not only saves graduates precious time in tracking down those opportunities, but it also offers practical advice and ideas on how to genuinely increase their odds of success.”

Emma Beresford, a recent graduate from Imperial College London, has been helping to develop the site. “The time had come to find myself a job, so volunteering to get involved in writing and sourcing content for the mygraduatecareer.com site, and help other graduates in the same position as myself, seemed like too good an opportunity to miss. Conversations with my friends are constantly dominated by our concerns about getting a good job and where to find reliable and authoritative sources of career advice and opportunities. Advice websites like ‘Prospects’ for example are really good but there are many, many other excellent ones out there as well; job boards and employer career sites. In the current economic climate learning all the ‘dos and don’ts’ of being a graduate job seeker from as many different perspectives as possible is really important for anyone trying to get their first career break. I want to work in marketing so learning all about building websites and how to use social media to develop my career prospects and not just my social life has been brilliant. Seeing my first advice guide ‘From Facebook to LinkedIn’ appear on the front page felt like such an achievement. I just hope that visitors to the site will learn as much from using it as I have by helping to build it. It’s been a steep learning curve but a really fun journey!”
