Thorntons welcomes eleven new trainees on board

Leading law firm Thorntons has appointed 11 trainees this month - its highest ever intake, underlining its investment in the future of the business.

With its announcement of an increased trainee intake, Thorntons  says that it is making strides towards its growth strategy for the next four years.

Craig Nicol, Joint Managing Partner at Thorntons said: “We made the decision earlier this year to double our trainee intake.  This is in recognition of the firm’s expansion into new regions and our intent to significantly grow our business in the next 5 years.  Investing in training and development of our people is an integral part of our strategy to constantly review and improve client experience.

"Our renowned trainee programme has developed significantly over the course of many years. Thanks to our diverse range of clients and work, our trainees receive the opportunity to gain crucial experience in the widest possible range of legal specialities.

The new recruits will undertake a two-year traineeship and will shadow senior staff across Thorntons’ 10 offices. They will learn from a comprehensive programme which reaches across many of Thorntons' specialist teams.

The eleven trainees are Rachel Lawson, Katie Hopkirk, Cherrisse Sorrie, Elaine Goodwin, Jamie Lyons, Ling Deng, Zoe Irving, Joanne Grewar, Daniel McGinn, Iona Anderson and Nicola McKnight.

Katie Hobkirk, trainee at Thorntons said: “My path to gaining a traineeship with Thorntons started with me completing 3 weeks as a summer student way back in 2013 and returning every summer thereafter. It was after this initial placement that I realised that Thorntons was the firm for me.

“I could not be happier to have gained a traineeship with such a forward thinking and diverse law firm who invest in their employees’ development. I am looking forward to gaining experience in a variety of departments and delighted that Thorntons offer this opportunity as a full service law firm. We have the chance to experience what it is like to work from many of our office locations and departments."

Thorntons has offices in Dundee, Perth, Edinburgh, St Andrews, Cupar, Anstruther, Kirkcaldy, Arbroath, Montrose and Forfar.

Craig continued: "As well as developing their legal skills, the new recruits will also receive guidance in the importance of exemplary client care and strong communication – something Thorntons takes great pride in.

“We believe this is one of the most varied and comprehensive traineeships in the sector. Our 11 new trainees will enjoy a strong foundation for the start of a career in the legal profession. We hope that many will continue their career development with the firm upon completion.”
