David Hurst, Founder of Onrec.com, explains the background to the Global Summit for Online Recruitment Conference and Expo, being held on 18/19th September 2007, San Francisco.
"I have been monitoring suppliers to the recruitment industry for the last 17 years. I am based in the UK but have travelled every year, for the past 14 years, to learn from and enjoy conferences in the US.
I will never forget my first U.S conference. The American Staffing Association (ASA) had just got a new name and the conference was taking place in Dallas. The conference started with the ASA President welcoming delegates, and suddenly the doors opened at the back of the vast hall and two cowboys on horseback galloped to the front of the room, each carrying star spangled banners. We sang the national anthem and then they galloped out. I was awestruck.
It was after a conference in Las Vegas in 1999 that I returned to the UK determined to provide recruiters and HR with information about the online recruitment industry. At that time, it was all about job boards. I couldn't keep up with them popping up in the UK, and I was interested, so I wondered how any recruiters, HR or candidates could keep track. Three months later, Onrec.com went live on 14th February 2000.
Fast forward to 2007, and we have had an office in Chicago for 3 years now, and have just opened an office in Australia. Having organized conferences in Europe and Australia, we are hoping to bring something new and interesting to the market with our 2nd Global Summit for Online Recruitment Conference and Expo in San Francisco on 18th and 19th September.
Our aim is to bring delegates interested in online recruitment from the US together with delegates from around the world, who share a common interest, provide stimulating content and debate, alongside an Exhibition that will provide a unique mix of indigenous suppliers, as well as a fresh view from International suppliers that can supply the US home market, or that can supply products and services in the local markets.
So I invite you to come along and join with other delegates interested in how online recruitment is developing and moving forward.
My definition now of online recruitment is the process from finding and communicating with a candidate, to bringing them into your organization and monitoring them through and keeping in contact with them, even when or if they leave your business. How you best do this with the aid of technology is a challenge. Our event will give you an opportunity to review your current strategies and think about how to foster them in the era of Web 2.0 .
